Coastal Navigation Course

Posted in Uncategorized on December 14, 2009 by Owen

Well, Saturday saw the transportation of the huge amount of resources required to run a CNTP course up to Battersea Canoe Clubs base in London for a full course of keen and willing participants ready to get stuck and question just about everything – it was a fun course that was well fueled with Xmas goodies, the mulled wine even made an appearance at afternoon tea time.

BCU/UKCC L1 Coach

Just spent a week training the staff at the UK Sailing Academy in what had to be the nicest weather of the last few months, sunny, still and fresh. The guys were very positive and keen to learn new skills and take on new ideas.

It was week of lots of looking at planning, open canoe skills, coaching proccesses, general knowledge and much more.

It was a fun week with lots of new skills being learnt and existing skills being developed. Looking forward to next years courses, but will need a few months break to drop the weight gained in the UKSA dinning room – its very good food though!!!!

BCU/UKCC L2 Training Part 2

It was a successful second weekend for the L2 training based in Guildford. We looked at Coaching and Learning Styles, X Stream Challenge and Tailoring the learning to participants needs amongst many other things.

It wasn’t all work, we had a good deal of time to play games whilst on short journeys – it was agreed that one of the most useful sessions was on long term learning. We had the expected high water that rose quickly, almost as quick as it dropped eh Phil!!!!

4* Assessor Training

The 4* generic assessor training day is more fun than it sounds! The Specific day certainly is. I spent two days with Kev Richardson and James Batchelor, who are both aiming to become 4* Sea asessors, the first day was spent looking at good assessment practice, descussions, session planning and a bit of role play, with the second day out on the water looking at standards of the award and different ways to assess the criteria. Pictures are a bit lacking though.
